Eight were enough for D-10 tennis qualifier

Class AA tennis powers Fairview and Hickory claimed two of eight berths available during Saturday's District 10 Class AA qualifier at the Pennbriar Athletic Club.The Tigers advanced Jake Batchelor and David Gorman to the boys singles tournament, while the Hornets sent Ryan McCann and Ryan Zippie.

Others who made the postseason were Grove City's Luke Spears and Chris Chutz, Mark Grant of General McLane, and Adrian Shodi of Warren.

Fairview sophomore Thomas Shuttleworth was named the AA tournament's top seed after the qualifier. The Class AAA seeds will be determined Saturday, prior to the tournament's 8:45 a.m. start.

The AA and AAA finals will take place at the Pennbriar on May 5 at 3:30 p.m.
