Trio of diamond triple doubles

A three-double performance by a baseball or softball player is a rare occurrence. In a statistical anomaly Wednesday, three area high school players each hit three doubles in a game.
Joe Stelter of Girard achieved the feat in the YellowJackets’ 11-4 win over Youngsville in a Region 3 baseball game. A leadoff hitter, Stelter went 4-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs.
Eric Meehl of North East hit three doubles in the Grapepickers’ 12-7 win over Fort LeBoeuf in Region 3 play. Meehl, who also hits leadoff, finished 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs.
Softball player Tera Deniziak of Strong Vincent, meanwhile, ripped three doubles in an 11-2 non-region win over Warren. Deniziak, hitting second in the order, went 4-for-5 with a pair of runs and one RBI.
