It's been a week of comebacks in District 10. Several teams made impressive rallies to earn victories in several sports. Here are a few of them:
-- On Thursday, the Strong Vincent softball team trailed McDowell 5-2 going to the seventh inning. The Colonels then tied game with three runs in the seventh and won it with four runs in the eighth to take over sole possession of first place in Region 6. Amy Greene had four hits and two RBIs and Tera Deniziak hit a two-run single in the eighth for Vincent (12-3, 2-0). Cathy Smrekar had three hits, including a triple, for McDowell (10-6, 1-1).
-- Also Thursday, the McDowell boys volleyball team lost the first two games to Cochranton by 26-24 scores. However, the Trojans regrouped and won the final three games 25-22, 25-21 and 15-13. McDowell (2-8) got double-digit kills from Aaron Kopay (15), Brenton Mineo (13) and Dan Ryan (10).
-- On Tuesday, the Conneaut Valley softball team overcame a 2-0 deficit to claim a 4-2 win over Cambridge Springs and its ace, Stephanie Baer. Amanda Mahoney's two-run single gave the Indians the lead for good and tagged the Blue Devils with their first loss of the Region 2 season.
-- Also Tuesday, Colin Bailey's two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning capped the Corry baseball team's five-run rally as the Beavers stunned Mercyhurst Prep 6-5 in a non-region game. Jeremy Cressley also had a two-run double in the big inning.
-- Again on Tuesday, Iroquois' Chris Gindy stole third and scored on an error in the bottom of the seventh inning to force extra innings against Girard in Region 3 baseball. Five innings later, Andy Wallen's two-run homer gave Iroquois a 7-5, 12-inning victory.
