When Iroquois’ April Kaminski looked at Friday morning’s edition of the Erie Times-News, she might have been surprised to see that she had finished fourth in the javelin on the opening day of the Erie County Classic at Harborcreek.
After all, she was listed with a distance of 93 feet, 9 inches, while Fort LeBoeuf’s Lindsay Alexander had been declared the winner with a 102-7. However, Kaminski’s best throw actually had traveled more than 10 feet longer than the 93-9 with which she was credited.
Later that day – the second day of the County Classic – meet officials corrected their scoring error, and Kaminski’s top throw of 104-8 was counted.
As a result, Kaminski appeared in Saturday’s edition of the Times-News as the official winner, while Alexander placed second.
