Knoll's day not over after D-10 tennis title

Fairview's Johnathan Knoll beat teammate Jake Batchelor 6-2, 6-7 (7-1), 6-2 for the District 10 Class AA singles title Monday at the Pennbriar Athletic Center.
Afterwards, coach Rick Sertz had the remaining Tigers ready to practice for Wednesday's AA doubles tournament and Thursday's AA team tournament.
Yet there was Knoll.
The sophomore is now ineligible to compete in doubles, but less than 30 minutes after the biggest win of his life he still sought fellow Tigers to trade ground strokes.
Sertz only offered mild resistance to Knoll's presence.
"Most people would say, 'I'm tired, I'm fatigued. I'm going to get out of here,'" Sertz said, "but these guys love to play. We have a lot of so-called gym rats. If people want to know the secret to us winning over the last 10 years, it's that we love to play. I think the only person who loves to play more than these guys -- is me."

Wednesday's district doubles tournament will start at 11 a.m. at Pennbriar.
