North East, Union City win 3,200 relays

The North East boys and Union City girls got the District 10 Class AA track and field championships off to a strong start today with impressive wins in the 3,200-meter relay at Hickory High School.
Dylan Klein, Zach Mix, Garrett Gray and Carter Denne teamed up to win the 3,200 in time of
8 minutes, 8.83 seconds, well under the state-qualifying time of 8:15.55. The Fairview team finished second, narrowly missing the qualifying mark by a five one-hundredths of second. The top two finishers in every D-10 AA event qualify for next week's state meet.
In the girls race, Hannah Day, Morgan Sparks, Vicky Bem and Rebecca Reichbaum won in a time of 9:48.06, beating the qualifying time of 9:50.4. Seneca placed second and qualified for the state meet.
