Seeds hold at D-10 doubles tournament

The first and second-seeded teams will meet in the finals for each class of Wednesday's District 10 boys doubles tennis tournament. Matches were held at the Pennbriar Athletic Club.

In Class AA, Fairview's Thomas Shuttleworth and Jake Batchelor will play Grove City's Matt Kiser and Josiah Welker for the title.

Shuttleworth and Batchelor shut out third-seeded Ryan McCann and Corey Runyan 10-0 in the semifinals. Kiser and Welker survived a dramatic 11-10 final over Greenville's T.J. McGary and Brian Goda.

Kiser and Welker saved a match point during the tiebreaker, then rallied for a 9-7 score.

Prep and McDowell teams will play for the Class AAA championship. Those schools won their semis by identical 10-4 scores.

Prep's James Ward and John Walbridge, seeded second, advanced to the championship over Meadville brothers Seth and Pat Groover. The top-ranked McDowell tandem of Chris Galvin and Kevin Ricart eliminated the Ramblers' Jeff Demjanenko and Stephen Prichard.

The finals are scheduled to start around 3:20 p.m. The winning teams will advance to the PIAA tournament May 23 and 24 at Hershey.
