3 D-10 openers feature championship game rematches

High school football fans are in for a treat as teams open their seasons later this week. The first weekend includes three games that match teams that faced each other in District 10 championship games a year ago.

On Friday night, Cathedral Prep plays McDowell at Veterans Stadium. The Ramblers beat the Trojans 15-13 in last year' s Class AAAA title game, but Prep is now a Class AAA team.

Also on Friday night, Mercer travels to Mercyhurst College's Tullio Field to play Mercyhurst Prep. The Lakers won their first D-10 title by beating the Mustangs 21-19 for the Class A title last year.

On Saturday night, General McLane and Strong Vincent will play at Veterans Stadium. The Colonels topped the Lancers 41-6 a year ago to claim their third Class AAA championship in the past five seasons. McLane, which is now a Class AA team, had won three Class AAA titles since 2002.
