Former Class AAA power General McLane drops to Class AA this season, so the Lancers will be heavily favored to win District 10’s Region 4.
The challenge will be a daunting one for the top two teams in the region last season, Harbor Creek and Fairview. Both teams have huge holes to fill after the graduation of key players. However, both always find a way to reload.
Harbor Creek, which won the region title last season, must replace two all-District 10 performers in quarterback Josh McAnulty and running back/kicker Eric Divell. The Huskies seem to have a laboratory where they create 1,000-yard running backs. Divell followed in the footsteps of workhorse backs such as Stephen Blose, Dave Murzynski and Josh Vogel. Who will surface as the Huskies’ 1,000-yard back this season? We’ll find out.
Fairview, which placed second in the region, lost 16 starters from a skilled senior class. That included District 10 player of the year Tyler Sargent, a tailback who ran for 2,071 yards last season and then dominated the Save An Eye Game. But that’s not all. The Tigers said goodbye to two other all-district selections, linebacker Pat Michael and wide receiver Justin Haney. They also lost solid linemen such as Jeff Pollard and Bret Waples.
Yes, McLane is the favorite, but don't bet against Harbor Creek and Fairview making an impact in the region race at some point.
