High school sports season is almost here

It might be difficult to believe, but the high school sports season is only a few days away.

Fall sports teams open practice Monday throughout the state. Football headlines the list of sports, but there’s also boys and girls soccer, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls golf, girls tennis and girls volleyball.

Golfers will open their season first, as the regular season gets under way the following Monday, Aug. 18. Girls tennis follows Aug. 25.

Football season, of course, begins on a Friday, Aug. 29, along with soccer, cross country and girls volleyball.

However, those who crave football action don’t have to wait for the Aug. 29 openers. A slew of scrimmages will take place Aug. 16, followed by another batch of scrimmages Aug. 21-23.

For coverage of the opening day of practice Monday, visit the Varsity blog and read Tuesday’s Erie Times-News.
