Mention No. 4 to football fans, and most automatically think of Brett Favre.
Not in Girard, though. At least not for the moment.
The No. 4 they have in mind belongs to Pat Dunn, a YellowJackets’ team leader who tore the ACL and MCL in his right knee during a Sept. 12 game vs. Corry. Dunn played quarterback and led Girard’s defense with four interceptions.
The 4-0 ‘Jackets will play 2-2 General McLane in a big Region 4 game Friday night at Battles Memorial Field. Dunn will be on the ‘Jackets’ sideline, but he’ll also be with his teammates on the field.
At least his jersey number will. Girard players had No. 4 decals stuck on their helmets.
“I have a lot of respect for him as a (team) captain and a friend,” sophomore linebacker Tyler Tome said. “We’re going to try to win it all for him.”
