Plenty of points possible for Prep-Vincent

There’s no clear-cut favorite for Friday’s Region 6 football game between Strong Vincent and Cathedral Prep. Given their offenses, though, there’s an excellent chance they’ll surpass the point total from their Oct. 5, 1991 matchup.

On that night, Prep won 7-0 before 7,500 at Veterans Stadium. The Ramblers scored their lone touchdown late in the first half on Mark Tate’s 57-yard pass from Harry Izbicki.

Both teams went on to play for PIAA titles in their respective classes that season. Central Bucks West beat Prep 26-14 in the AAAA championship game at Altoona, while Vincent beat Conestoga Valley 29-20 in the AAA final at Moosic.

Don’t expect a repeat of Vincent and Prep’s defensive final from 17 years ago.

Last year, the Colonels and Ramblers combined for 761 yards in total offense. Vincent won the 47-34 shootout for its first victory over Prep since 1977.
