Prep, McDowell soccer set for Vet

The Cathedral Prep soccer team, which swept McDowell in three meetings last season, play the Trojans in first of two Region 4 games today. The 3-1 Ramblers and 1-1 Trojans collide at Veterans Stadium at 6 p.m.

Prep beat McDowell by 3-1 and 3-0 scores during the 2007 regular season. The Ramblers then won their 22nd District 10 title with a 5-0 victory over the Trojans in the Class AAA final at the Vet.

Prep’s only loss of 2008 was to nationally ranked St. Xavier. The Louisville, Ky., school beat the Ramblers 2-0.

Since then, Prep has shut out Bradford twice and Central Tech by a combined score of 15-0.

Peters Township beat McDowell 2-1 in the Trojans’ season opener. McDowell got in the win column with Tuesday’s 4-1 victory over East.

Prep and McDowell are scheduled to play at Gus Anderson Field on Oct. 7.
