McDowell quarterback A.J. Fenton made big news Tuesday by verbally committing to Wisconsin for next season.
Fenton, a 6-foot 2-inch, 210-pound senior, received scholarship offers from Illinois, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Indiana, Stanford, Maryland and a number of Mid-American Conference schools. He also visited Michigan, Ohio State and West Virginia but did not receive offers from those schools.

-- At Downing Golf Course, Cathedral Prep kept winning under new interim coach Jim Sertz as the Ramblers placed first in a Region 6 mega-match with a 299 team total. Pat Murawski shot a 1-over 73 to lead the Ramblers. Gregor Orlando added a 74 as Cathedral Prep beat runner-up McDowell by 12 strokes. McDowell's Austin Romeo shot the low individual score of the day with a 72. Sertz replaced Ron Coleman, who resigned last week.
-- In boys soccer at the Gate of Heaven field, Brian Colvin, Andrew Zimmer and Russ Tattersall each scored twice as Prep claimed an 8-0 Region 4 victory. The Ramblers improved to 4-1-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the region. Mitchell Mack picked up the shutout in goal. Villa Maria dropped to 3-3 and 1-2.
-- Meanwhile, in boys soccer at Bradford, Peter Counter and Adam Clement scored as McDowell pulled out a 2-1 win over Bradford and stayed unbeaten in Region 4. The Trojans moved to 2-1-1 overall and 2-0-1 in Region 4. Bradford slipped to 1-7 and 0-2.
-- Also in boys soccer, Warren defeated Eisenhower 4-2 in the first meeting of the season between the Region 2 powers. Both teams entered the day undefeated after tying each other for first place last year in Region 3 with 15-1 records. Each team's sole loss last season came to the other. Ethan Beardsley, Mark Schoenborn, Scott Schoenborn and Troy Burns scored for Warren. Dan Lane had both goals for Eisenhower. Warren improved to 6-0 overall and 5-0 in Region 2, while Eisenhower dropped to 5-1 and 5-1.
-- The Cochranton girls volleyball team rallied to beat rival Maplewood 30-32, 18-25, 25-19, 25-17, 15-6 in a Region 2 showdown between two reigning District 10 champions. The Cardinals are the four-time defending D-10 Class A champions, while the Tigers dropped to Class A this season after winning three straight D-10 Class AA titles.
-- In cross country at Meadville, Elesia Wilson of Meadville set a course record with a time of 20 minutes, 24 seconds. Wilson led the Bulldogs to a 1-1 record for the day. The Bulldogs defeated Warren 19-42 but lost to McDowell 20-41.
