Mercyhurst Prep’s 4-2 overall record isn’t the best in Region 2. That distinction goes to the 5-0 Saegertown Panthers.
But the Lakers’ mark after Thursday’s 20-6 victory over Iroquois has exceeded even their coach’s expectations.
“To be honest, this is a better than I thought we’d be because we’re so young,” Matt Morgan said, “but we’ll take it. We have a lot of tough games ahead of us, so we need to keep fighting to keep that (District 10 Class A) championship.”
Mercyhurst won its fourth straight with a big assist from Robert Carson. The senior didn’t play in the Lakers’ 27-21 victory last weekend at Cambridge Springs due to a suspension from his ejection during Mercyhurst’s Sept. 20 game vs. Cochranton.
Carson returned to account for 163 yards in total offense and three touchdowns. He also made an end zone interception in the final seconds of the first half that ended the Braves’ best drive of the game.
