Fans must choose between top-ranked Colonels, Gators

Erie football fans have a difficult choice come Friday night. Not one, but two of the state’s top-ranked teams will play at the same time.

The Pennsylvania Football News released its week six poll Monday. Strong Vincent (6-0) remained atop the Class AAA rankings thanks to its 47-0 victory at Corry last Thursday.

The Colonels will host 5-1 Bradford on Friday at 7 p.m. at Veterans Stadium.

At the same time, 6-0 Gateway will visit 4-2 McDowell at Gus Anderson Stadium. Located in Monroeville, the Gators are not only ranked first in PFN’s Class AAAA poll, but were third in last week’s USA Today Super 25 national poll.

Gateway and McDowell will meet for the first time.

Also ranked by PFN this week are 6-0 Wilmington (eighth) in Class AA and 6-0 Saegertown (10th) in Class A.
