Lakers tame Tigers en route to District 10 tournament

Unless the weather dictates otherwise, the Mercyhurst Prep girls tennis team will get plenty of court time the remainder of this week.

The Lakers (10-0) clinched a share of the Region 2 title with a 5-0 victory over rival Fairview on Wednesday. It was the second of five straight days that Mercyhurst is scheduled to trade volleys.

Mercyhurst beat McDowell on Tuesday. The Lakers take on Central Tech today at 4 p.m. at Frontier Park, then travel to McMurray on Friday for a non-region matchup against Peters Township.

Those are preludes to Saturday's District 10 singles tennis tournament at the Pennbriar Athletic Club. Highlighted by senior Rebecca Haener, Mercyhurst is the favorite to produce the Class AA champion.

The tournament will start at 9 a.m. and run through the semifinals. The AA and Class AAA championship matches will take place Monday at 3:30 p.m.
