Saturday Morning Quarterback -- Sunday Update

-- Cathedral Prep played well at times against St. Edward on Friday, but a few Prep mistakes helped St. Ed pull away for a 33-20 victory.

For the second consecutive week, the Ramblers (3-3) will face a strong Ohio program when they travel to Columbus on Friday to face St. Francis DeSales at 7:30 p.m.

St. Francis improved to 7-0 Friday with a 21-17 comeback win over Bishop Watterson (4-3). The Stallions rallied from deficits of 10-0 and 17-7. Defense has been the hallmark for St. Francis, which has not allowed more than 17 points in a game this season.

One player Prep will have to deal with is 6-foot 6-inch wide receiver Ike Ariguzo. He caught six passes for 76 yards Friday, including a key touchdown in the comeback.

-- Linesville did its part in setting up a Class A showdown with Saegertown by routing Conneaut Valley 41-8 Saturday in Conneautville. The Lions (5-1 overall, 4-1 Region 1) are tied for first place in Region 1 with Sharpsville, one-half game ahead of Mercer (3-1) and Farrell (3-1).

Saegertown, ranked No. 1 in District 10 in Class A, is 6-0 after pulling out its closest win of the season, 24-21 over Union City on Friday.

This matchup has been looked at with anticipation since the Lions and Panthers began running roughshod through teams early in the season. Linesville claimed 44-7, 35-0 and 56-12 wins before edging defending District 10 Class A champion Mercer 28-21 in Week 4. The Lions then suffered their only loss, 27-0 to Farrell, in Week 5.

Before beating Union City, Saegertown recorded five consecutive routs by these scores: 41-8, 42-7, 64-0, 78-6 and 41-7.
