The Strong Vincent football team represented Erie County's last hope for a PIAA champion, but not for District 10.
The Farrell Steelers and Wilmington Greyhounds stayed alive for titles with quarterfinal victories in their respective classes. Each will play in state semifinal games Friday at 7 p.m.
Farrell (12-2), the district's Class A titlist, will face WPIAL champion Clairton (14-0) in Wexford at North Allegheny High School's Newman Stadium. The Steelers advanced with a 31-0 final over Cameorn County, while Clairton blanked Windber Area 26-0.
Wilmington (13-1) and Aliquippa (12-2) clash in a Class AA semi at Center Area High School in Monaca. The 'Hounds held off Martinsburg Central for a 21-19 quarterfinal win, while the Quips routed Karns City 42-14.
Class AAA power Thomas Jefferson, which beat Strong Vincent 35-21 in Friday's anticipated PIAA quarterfinal, advanced to play District 3 champ West York (13-1) on Friday at 7 at Altoona's Mansion Park.
The 13-1 Jaguars seek their third AAA state championship in five years.
