McDowell football players claimed 13 spots on the WPIAL Quad South Conference all-star team this week.
Quarterback A.J. Fenton, offensive lineman Dylan Lane and defensive lineman Brad Gore made the first team.
Because McDowell is the only Class AAAA team in District 10, the team plays a schedule loaded with eight WPIAL teams, including each of the seven teams from the Quad South Conference -- also known as the Foothills Conference. McDowell went 5-2 in the conference, losing only to a pair of state-ranked teams, Gateway (7-0) and McKeepsort (6-1). The Trojans would have finished third in the conference, but they do not count in the standings. They are, however, considered for the postseason all-star team.
Fenton, who will play at Wisconsin next year, totaled 1,455 rushing yards as the Trojans' option quarterback. Lane was a part of the offensive line leading the way for Fenton. Gore was selected as a defensive lineman, but also played as a tight end on offense.
Center Tyler Wingrove, wide receiver Mike Bizzaro and running back Alex Schmude were all named to the offensive second team. Linebacker Kasey Gallagher and defensive backs Tyler Abatta and Zach Greenawalt also were selected to the second team.
Offensive guard Dusty Galich, wide receiver Alex Orzechowski, defensive lineman Jordan Koper and punter Zach Stano earned honorable-mention honors.
