Welcome to Saturday Afternoon Highlights. We'll be tracking two PIAA soccer games and a District 10 Class AA football game this afternoon. In football, Fairview takes on Sharon at noon. In girls soccer, McDowell faces Peters Township in a Class AAA quarterfinal at noon. Fairview then meets Springdale at 2 p.m. in a Class AA quarterfinal.

McDowell 0, Peters Township 0: We're 20 minutes into the game, and neither team has dominated the early going. Peters Towsnhip just had the first corner kick, but did not score.

Sharon 7, Fairview 0: Late in the first quarter. Fairview's high-powered ground game is matched against quarterback Todd Rearick and Sharon's potent passing attack. Sharon is backed up deep in its own territory at the 4-yard line.

Rearick was strong on the opening drive, but Fairview's defense has responded the past two possessions.

Sharon 7, Fairview 0: End of the first quarter. Rearick has completed back-to-back passes, moving Sharon out to the 46-yard line. The first was a key third-down completion from the 4-yard line.

WCTL reports that Sharon outgained Fairview 136-19 in the first quarter. Rearick is finding open receivers.

Sharon 14, Fairview 0: Rearick completes his second TD pass of the game, this one 8 yards to Mike Tomko. He earlier completed a TD pass to Louis Brown. Sharon drives 96 yards for the TD. Rearick already has 168 yards passing. That puts him over 1,500 for the season. Rearick now has thrown 24 TD passes and just seven intercpetions.

Sharon 14, Fairview 0: Second quarter. Fairview backs up 14 yards on the first two plays of its next possession and is forced to punt. Sharon's defense is dominating early.

McDowell 0, Peters Township 0: Six minutes to go in the first half. McDowell has three shots on goal but no serious threats.

Sharon 21, Fairview 0: Rearick completes a 16-yard TD pass to Mike Tomko midway through the second quarter. It's Rearick's third TD pass of the game. He's gone over the 200-yard mark in the first half. Rearick, by the way, is a 6-foot 1-inch 190-pound senior.

McDowell 0, Peters Township 0: Halftime. Uneventful first half, for the most part. Peters Township is playing very physical defense when McDowell gets within 30 yards of the goal.

Sharon 28, Fairview 0: Rearick completes yet another TD pass -- a third to Mike Tomko. This one is getting out of hand. Fairview needed to control the ball to keep it out of Rearick's hands but hasn't moved the ball consistently. Tomko has six catches for more than 160 yards.

Sharon 28, Fairview 0: Halftime. Sharon dominated, thanks to an aggressive defense and a precise passing game. Rearick is well over 200 yards passing, with four TDs.

Sharon 35, Fairview 0: Third quarter. Rearick throws his fifth TD pass of the day,a 14-yard pass to Dustin Norcross. Rearick is approaching 300 yards passing.

Peters Township 1, McDowell 0: Final. McDowell had one chance to score late but couldn't convert. The Trojans close the season at 17-6.

Sharon 35, Fairview 0: Sharon's defense is every bit as impressive as its offense. Sharon stops Fairview's next possession with back-to-back sacks.

Sharon 35, Fairview 7: Final. Fairview scores a fourth-quarter touchdown on Jared Lane's 83-yard TD run. He finished with more than 130 yards.

Fairview closes the season at 8-3, while Sharon (10-1) advances to face the winner of the North East-Slippery Rock game.
