The Strong Vincent football team came up short in its bid to reach the 2008 PIAA Class AAA championship game.
Thomas Jefferson beat the Colonels 35-21 in the semifinals. The Jaguars followed with their third state title in five years thanks to a 34-7 rout of Archbishop Wood at Hershey.
Pennsylvania Football News voters were unmoved. They still felt Vincent was a better team than Wood in its final AAA poll.
Thomas Jefferson was deservedly first at 15-1. However, the 13-1 Colonels were second and the 12-3 Vikings third.
Wilmington ended first in the Class AA poll. The 15-1 Greyhounds required overtime in three of their final four playoff games to claim the team's first state title.
Farrell was the only other District 10 team that warranted a final top 10 rank in the PFN polls. The 12-3 Steelers were were fourth in Class A.
