With the high school basketball season reaching the end of its first month, the chances of an undefeated team becomes less likely.
Here is a look at which teams are left that are yet to lose a game and what they have coming up on their schedules.
Boys
Reynolds (7-0) - The Raiders won't leave Mercer county the rest of the season and are looking like a solid Class AA playoff team. Reynolds will play in the West Middlesex Christmas tournament next week before traveling to Jamestown on Jan. 3. Reynolds' biggest test will be in a non-region game on Jan. 6 against Class A powerhouse Kennedy Catholic.
Mercyhurst Prep (6-0) - The Lakers have been dominating Region 4 for most of the season with four wins in region play. Mercyhurst Prep was to face a huge test Monday at area-rival Fairview, but the game was postponed because of inclement weather. The Lakers won't be in action again until they travel to West Virginia for a christmas tournament. If the Lakers survive the tournament with an undefeated record, they will return to Erie for a three-game homestand, including a huge test against Class AAAA power McDowell on Jan. 6.
Harbor Creek (5-0) - The Huskies have been playing well this season and picked up a strong non-region win over Strong Vincent 53-43 on Dec. 13. Harbor Creek will host Central Tech tonight before playing in the Iroquois tournament next week. If the Huskies finish 2008 unbeaten, they will face a rough three-game stretch to start the new year. Harbor Creek will travel to Warren and General McLane before a showdown with Girard in Harborcreek on Jan. 13.
Girls
Reynolds (7-0) - Much like their boys counterparts, the Raiders have been blowing through the competition, including a 3-0 Region 2 record. Reynolds will take on a tough Seneca team on Saturday in a non-region game to wrap up the 2008 portion of its schedule. The Raiders will travel to Wilmington and Commodore Perry to start the new year, but could be unbeaten when they square off with Class A power Farrell on Feb. 9.
Villa Maria (6-0) - The Victors have easily the toughest schedule in District 10 this season, and would need to really get hot to have a shot at an undefeated season. Villa did knock off nationally-ranked Oak Hill to open the season, but has plenty of tough games ahead. After hosting Seneca tonight, the Victors will pack their bags and head to Phoenix for the Nike Tournament of Champions. If the Victors return to Erie unbeaten, they will spend the next three of four games on the road. Villa will travel to Albion on Jan. 2 to take on Northwestern, and to Russell on Jan. 5 to play Eisenhower. The Victors still have to travel to Girard to take on the 'Jackets on Jan. 15, and will face nationally-ranked Cardinal O'Hara on Jan. 25.
General McLane (5-0) - The Lancers' game against Central Tech was also postponed Monday and will be made up tonight. McLane will also be leaving the 814 area code for its holiday tournament. The Lancers will travel to Kissimmee, Florida for a KSA event. Once McLane returns, it will travel to Paul Goll Gymnasium on Jan. 8 to take on McDowell before hosting Perry on Jan. 10 and will play at Harbor Creek on Jan. 12. The Lancers' biggest games will be Jan. 19 and Feb. 5 against Class AAA-rival Mercyhurst Prep.
