Four of the top District 10 girls basketball teams are ranked in the state according to the Harrisburg Patriot-News Preseason Poll.
PIAA Class AAA runner-up Mercyhurst Prep (30-3) will start the season as the No. 4 team in the state, while District 10 Class AAA champion General McLane (23-6) is No. 10.
In Class AA, area-rivals Villa Maria (24-5) and Girard (25-5) are also in the top 10. The Victors are No. 2 behind defending PIAA champion York Catholic, while the YellowJackets are No. 9. Villa and Girard will play on Dec. 10 at Penn State Behrend's Junker Center.
District 10 Class A champion Farrell (26-3) is in the honorable mention category after losing three 1,000-point scorers from last year, while the team it beat in the D10 title game, Eisenhower (21-7), is also in the honorable mention.
On the boys' side, Kennedy Catholic (20-10), which has won 11 straight District 10 titles, is No. 2 in Class A behind PIAA champion Serra Catholic. Farrell (25-5) was mistakenly ranked No. 6 in Class A, and should be ranked in Class AAA when the regular season polls start. In AAA, Meadville (17-10) is among the honorable mention teams.
