High School Hoops Hot List - Wednesday

With the postseason around the corner, here is a list of 10 "big men" at least 6-feet 4-inches that will make an impact.

1. Josh Chojnacki, Mercyhurst Prep, 6 feet 8 inches – Chojnacki has emerged as one of the leaders for the Lakers after the graduation of Sam Hvezda. The junior averages around 17 points a game for Mercyhurst Prep, and will be integral whether its on the offensive or defensive end for the Lakers.

2. Wendell Torres, East, 6 feet 6 inches – Torres has really improved during the second half of the season as a force inside for the Warriors. As East advances and has to take on athletic teams like Farrell and Hickory, Torres will need to continue his dominant play inside for the Warriors to win D-10.

3. John Zehe, Fairview, 6 feet 5 inches – Zehe was able to limit Chojnacki's impact on Friday as Fairview beat Mercyhurst Prep. Zehe isn't going to score 20 points a game, but his work ethic and ability to move his feet will be key for the Tigers in the postseason.

4. Kyle Shuman, General McLane, 6 feet 4 inches – The Lancers keep getting better and better through defense and solid outside shooting. When McLane has to deal with tall players in the postseason, it will look to Shuman for a boost. Shuman isn't a big time scorer, but will give Andy Schulz some solid minutes underneath the hoops.

5. Adi Cosic, Girard, 6 feet 5 inches – Cosic will sometimes get into foul trouble, but otherwise is a perfect compliment to a solid YellowJacket offense. Cosic is tough on the boards, and is always a viable option on offense around the hoop.

6. Joe Custer, Harbor Creek, 6 feet 6 inches – After the Huskies started off winning their first nine games, they are struggling to keep their play consistent. Custer will have to step it up inside as one of the biggest players on the Class AAA level. Custer is big on the boards and will make sure to hit his layups.

7. Jordan Wilds, Hickory, 6 feet 5 inches – A big man that plays a small man's game. Wilds is the complete package for the Hornets as one of Hickory's ballhandlers. Wilds can drive, play inside and drain 3-pointers. Hickory lost to Farrell both times the teams met this season, but Wilds will be a big part of why they might play a third time in the D-10 championship.

8. Aundra Jones, Kennedy Catholic, 6 feet 6 inches – Sure everyone has heard of all-time Kennedy scoring leader Kyle Randall. What Class A opponents will need to keep an eye on is the play of Jones. Jones compliments Randall in a solid inside-outside combination.

9. Jordan Baker, McDowell, 6 feet 7 inches – Class AAAA is a hard enough bracket to play in, and Baker makes it even tougher on Trojan opponents. Baker is a solid inside presence that takes pressure off leading scorer Jason Keim. Baker is the tallest player in District 10 Class AAAA, and could be the difference in McDowell's run at the title.

10. Russell Conley, Reynolds, 6 feet 9 inches – Conley is the biggest player in District 10, but is a question mark as the regular season winds down. Conley and Chris Laverty have been a potent duo for the Raiders, but Conley went down with a sprained knee on Friday and hasn't returned to the court since. Could be interesting if the Raiders take on Mercyhurst Prep to see Conley and Chojnacki go at it.
