Does the revolving door really revolve that way?
When Chris Matthews told me he was seriously considering running for Arlen Specter's senate seat in 2010--I began seriously wondering whether or not anyone would actually vote for him.
A new poll released shows that Specter is still very popular but Matthews has a good chance to beat him.
Specter led Matthews 41-36 percent in the Quinnipiac University poll. The poll surveyed 1,580 voters from July 30 to Aug. 3.
56 percent of Democrats supported Matthews
63 percent of Republicans backed Specter
Specter carried the independents, 44-27 percent
I talked with Specter about the race as well. He looked me square in the face and told me--despite the chemo for Hodgkins--he would be defending his seat in 2010.
But Specter is vulnerable...and the race is going to be exciting. Rumors around DC say if Rep. Joe Sestak and Rep. Allyson Schwartz keep their House seats, they could also throw their hats in the ring.
